Data from the Central Bank's Instant Payments System recorded 608.6 million Pix transactions between Saturday (26) and Monday (28), a volume 10% below the average of the previous four weeks. The drop coincides with the publication of MP No. 1.394/2026, which bans fixed-odds betting, but the Central Bank has not confirmed a causal relationship.
Members of the government task force attributed the reduction to the restriction and enforcement measures. The Minister of Justice, Wellington César Lima e Silva, stated that the decline demonstrates immediate effectiveness of the actions and that the enforcement and crackdown process will be permanent.
Daily variation in transactions
The reduction was steeper over the weekend. On Saturday (26), the first day after the publication of the executive order, there were 229.6 million transactions — an 11% decline compared to the average of the previous four Saturdays. On Sunday (27), the volume fell to 165.9 million, a 12% drop on the same comparison basis. On Monday (28), the most recent data available, there were 213 million transactions, a 7.4% decline compared to the average of the previous four Mondays.
Restrictions on Pix and the financial system
MP No. 1.394/2026, published on September 25, amends Law 14.790/2023. The text prohibits banks and other members of payment arrangements from processing transactions intended for fixed-odds betting. The ban covers instant payment systems, including Pix. The Central Bank will be responsible for developing an electronic platform for the interbank rejection and return of funds linked to illegal betting in real-time transfers.
Other task force actions
The task force announced additional crackdown measures. Since Sunday (27), it has requested that Anatel block 5,209 irregular betting addresses. The deadline for the removal of 186 irregular apps from app stores is 11:59 p.m. on October 5. The government identified 63 legal entities listed as recipients of funds originating from illegal betting.
