How to block betting sites and apps on your phone and computer

To block betting sites and apps on your phone and computer, combine three layers: SPA self-exclusion, BetBlocker, and Family Link parental controls. Irregular and offshore sites may remain accessible even after the federal ban, and these tools act directly on the device.

Self-exclusion covers the sites authorized by the SPA. BetBlocker blocks access during browsing based on an extensive list of betting sites. Family Link allows the guardian to restrict specific apps on supervised Android devices. Using all three layers together broadens the scope of protection.

Federal ban on fixed-odds betting

Provisional Measure No. 1.394, dated September 25, 2026, banned the operation, offering, and advertising of fixed-odds betting throughout the national territory. The ban covers both the operation of the platforms and the broadcasting of advertising related to such betting.

Irregular sites and operators hosted abroad may remain accessible on the internet even after the publication of the provisional measure. A block installed on the user's device works independently of the regulatory status or location of the site and serves as a practical barrier as long as betting pages remain accessible online.

Centralized self-exclusion and CPF-based blocking

The SPA portal describes a centralized self-exclusion platform that allows blocking access to all authorized betting sites at once. With a single request, the user loses access to all registered platforms without needing to contact each operator individually. The request is made by the user themselves. Third parties cannot request self-exclusion on behalf of another person. To restrict access for minors, the guardian can use parental control tools such as Family Link.

According to the same portal, the SPA system cross-references CPFs to block registrations or close accounts of social program beneficiaries on authorized platforms, automatically, within three days. Approximately 800 thousand people were prevented from betting after debt renegotiation. These blocks are part of the access rules for platforms authorized by the SPA.

BetBlocker: free site blocker

BetBlocker is a free digital tool dedicated to helping people reduce, restrict, or stop access to betting sites. It is maintained by a charity registered in Scotland. Installation takes about 2 minutes and, once active, blocks more than 1,035,300 betting sites.

The service can be used anonymously, without providing personal data, and installed on as many devices and platforms as the user wants, with no limit. Once started, a restriction cannot be removed before the end of the chosen period. This feature is intentional and works as a barrier against relapse. When setting up the tool, carefully evaluate the restriction period, as it will not be possible to unlock early.

Parental controls on Android and limitations on iOS

Family Link allows the guardian to manage apps on supervised devices, including choosing which apps are available for download or purchase, blocking or authorizing apps, and changing permissions. Blocking or unblocking an app takes about 5 minutes, or when the device connects to the internet.

Supervision requires a device with Android 6.0 or later, or a Chromebook with ChromeOS 71 or later. On Android 8.1 or later, the settings are found under Bem-estar digital e controle dos pais. iPhones, iPads, and computers that are not Chromebooks cannot be supervised by Family Link. If the device to be protected uses iOS, BetBlocker is an alternative, as it can be installed on multiple platforms with no device limit.

Payment restrictions for irregular betting

An ordinance from the Secretaria de Prêmios e Apostas expanded the procedures for preventing, identifying, and suppressing payment transactions linked to the irregular operation of fixed-odds betting.
