The Federal Police requested the Supreme Federal Court to open an inquiry to investigate whether Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), a presidential candidate, is a hidden partner of Best Bet. The revelation was published by piauí magazine and picked up by Folha de S.Paulo, Yogonet, Terra, and Opera Mundi.
The main target of the investigation is lawyer Willer Tomaz, described by Folha as the public partner of Best Bet and the country's largest bettor, with R$ 5 billion in transactions. The investigation is proceeding under seal at the STF, as reported by Yogonet.
Connection between Flávio, Tomaz, and Alcazar
The connection identified by piauí runs through Alcazar, a company linked to Cathedral, a Portuguese holding company that controls Best Bet. According to Terra, Flávio and Tomaz were the sole master users of Alcazar's account at Santander bank. According to Yogonet, Flávio was reportedly removed from that status on May 22, 2025, following a request submitted to the bank by an employee of Tomaz.
In January 2025, STF Justice André Mendonça ruled that Best Bet could only operate in the state of Rio de Janeiro, according to piauí.
Denials and political context
Flávio denied having maintained an account as a master user alongside Tomaz or any of his companies, according to Terra. Tomaz also rejected the accusations, according to Opera Mundi. Contacted by Folha on Wednesday (21), the PL presidential campaign did not respond.
piauí reported that betting house owners are wagering that Flávio, if elected president, will overturn the ban on betting operators decreed by Lula in September. The scenario makes the investigation politically sensitive amid the electoral race.
